Leighton Baines Prepared for New Agreement

Everton and English left-back Leighton Baines are getting closer to signing a new contract with Everton after consistent and outstanding performances on their pitch. The 29-year-old striking defender has played more than 210 games for the Toffees.he has scored 19 Premier League goals since leaving Wigan Athletic in 2007; for an estimated fee of around million with an additional million in additional fees.

The length of the contract extension has not yet been confirmed, but his salary is estimated per week. The board and manager Roberto Martinez expect him to remain in the top flight for the rest of his Everton career.

The Toffees are currently on holiday in Tenerife (Spain) after a rather busy but successful first half of the season and Baines looks set to sign the new contract when they return the weekend before Monday night’s game against West Bromwich Albion (kick-off 20 o’clock).

After seven years at the club, Leighton won 22 international caps for his native England.he scored his first and so far only goal for England in September 2012 against Moldova in the 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign; he scored a deflected free kick to secure England’s 5-0 win over Moldovan minnows.

Former Everton coach and now Manchester United manager David Moyes twice failed to sign the left-back to join the Red Devils and reunite the dressing rooms with his former coach. The offer also included Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini for a combined sum of the two players for 28 million pounds. The offer was rejected by the Everton board, calling it “insulting and ridiculous”.Fellaini eventually left for Manchester United for 27.5 million pounds.

And with Baines set to sign a new contract with the Toffees in the coming days, the rumoured backline bid appears to be out of date.

On the transfer news, Roberto Martinez reiterated his interest in Stoke City striker Kenwyne Jones, and Jones said he wanted to move to Goodison Park after the striker failed to make it to Stoke City’s match against Liverpool. This could be a possibility as Nikica Jelavic looks almost ready to join Steve Bruce’s Hull City, and luring Jones to Everton would fill the void left by the Croatian international.
